Now that the calendar has flipped to March, it’s time to start thinking about spring break. While your child might be tempted to sit on the couch for a week watching TV and playing video games, you want to make sure they get outside and enjoy some out-of-the-box activities, too. Here are ten fun spring break activities for your son or daughter:

Blow bubbles

Looking for something fun and different to do with your kiddos during spring break? Then why not spend some time outside blowing bubbles? We’re certain this inexpensive activity will bring hours of family fun.

Go on a treasure hunt outside

Speaking of outside, the temperature is supposed to remain near 70 degrees for the next week. That’s treasure hunting weather if you ask us! Here’s your chance to get the kids away from their electronics for an afternoon and excited about another fun spring break activity.

Read outdoors

You’re hopefully starting to see a theme with these. Have your child grab their favorite books and head outside for the day. You can even go so far as to enjoy a picnic lunch in the backyard between chapters.

Take a day trip

Worried that you and/or your child might get cabin fever at some point during the week? Then consider taking a day trip to a nearby destination. For parents in Austin, we recommend quick treks to places such as San Antonio, Wimberley, Johnson City, Waco, Canyon Lake, or McKinney Falls State Park.

Visit a children’s museum

Spring break fun doesn’t have to cost a penny. We’re fortunate to live in a city where there are so many museums and galleries that offer free admission for children. Take your pick from the Austin Fire Museum, Austin Science & Nature Center, Elisabet Ney Museum, Mexic-Arte Museum, and other local favorites.

Create springtime crafts

Spring break provides a great opportunity for you and your children to get a headstart on seasonal crafts. If you’re in need of some inspiration, you can’t go wrong with backyard-, flower-, and garden-themed projects. With a beautiful week on tap, we recommend doing some of your craft projects outside!

Host a family movie night

We’ve talked at length about how to get your child out of the house during spring break. But what’s a vacation without some rest and relaxation? After a busy week of activities, end your child’s spring break with a family movie night. Just don’t forget the popcorn!

Take them to a child care center

There may come a point during your child’s spring break when you need to run some errands or stop by the office for several hours. But with so many daycare centers in Austin, how do you really know which one is right for your son or daughter?
